Red and Blue Kente Fabrics

The Akans call it kente (nwentoma) which means woven fabric. It is a royal and sacred garment, worn only at a time of extreme importance and which was the garment of kings. Over time, the use of kente became widespread. However, its importance has remained and it is held in high esteem by the Ashanti. The kente is also worn by the Akans of Côte d'Ivoire who migrated from Ghana. It is a colorful and thick fabric used as such (in loincloth) or in the making of more complex clothes. Usually worn during festivals and ceremonies, this garment is a symbol of nobility and prestige. The kita constitutes the basis of the clothing of the kings and chiefs Akans, Ga and Ewés.
